My name is Lukas Novak – I founded Jumpstart in 2021, after years of offering catered academic support to families in Miami, FL and Princeton, NJ. I am currently completing my PhD in Counseling Psychology at the University of Miami, and I was trained to provide skills-building and academic support in the McGraw Center for Teaching and Learning, at Princeton University. I believe in the importance of the authentic relationship in facilitating human change, and I offer an attitude which balances realism with hopefulness.
Outside of providing psycho-educational support, I research human flourishing, play chess, and think about adult personality.

My name is Alex Calder – I am currently completing my PhD in Counseling Psychology at the University of Miami, with an anticipated internship placement at Utah State University. I have worked with young people to facilitate their success for over a decade, receiving some of my most valued training at TELOS Residential Academy in Utah. I believe in a balanced and respectful approach to providing services, which honors each student’s sense of autonomy and control.
Outside of my work through Jumpstart, I research addiction and human development, and love to ski.

My name is Alexis Franklin – a Rhodes College 2018 graduate and currently a Counseling Psychology Ph.D. student at the University of Miami. I am a dedicated and passionate academic coach with extensive experience working with youth in a variety of different capacities. I have a wealth of knowledge and expertise in working with elementary and middle school curricula, with a particular focus on math and science.
Throughout my career, I have demonstrated a deep commitment to helping students achieve their academic goals. I have worked as a volunteer tutor, private tutor, ACT tutor, and after-school program coordinator, always with the goal of providing the highest level of support to my students. I strive for a patient and encouraging approach to help students not only improve their grades but also develop a love for learning. I am always looking for new and innovative ways to make learning fun and engaging, using real-world examples and hands-on activities to bring these subjects to life.
